Allen Meadows Burghound 90

2004 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru) Burghound, 1/1/2007, 1st Quarter, 2007, Allen Meadows (web) 90 A completely different nose with a mix of wood spice, black and dark berry fruit and briar aromas that highlight rich, supple and velvety flavors of exceptional purity, all wrapped in a punchy, intense and palate staining finish. This delivers excellent quality for what is a mid-level Gevrey 1er and is recommended. (drink starting 2012)

John Gilman View from the Cellar 92

2004 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru) View From the Cellar, 3/1/2006, Mar/Apr 2006, John Gilman 92 All the vines in the Bachelet holding of Corbeaux were planted in the 1920s, making this truly an old vine cuvée. The nose on the 2004 is excellent, offering up a blend of dark berries, a bit of sweet cassis, bitter chocolate, dark chocolate, lovely soil tones and an incipient note of mustard seed. On the palate the wine is fullish, complex and beautifully balanced, with great length, solid tannins, and lovely transparency on the finish. This is about the same size and shape as the Gevrey V.V., but it should deliver another level of complexity when they have both reached maturity. Fine, fine juice. (drink 2010-2035)
