John Gilman View from the Cellar 91

2004 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin) View From the Cellar, 3/1/2006, Mar/Apr 2006, John Gilman 91 The Gevrey V.V. cuvée has consistently been excellent from Monsieur Bachelet, and the 2004 is no exception. This is a deep and classy wine that is built to age along the lines of a premier cru. The nose on the 2004 is deep and primary, offering up notes of black raspberry, black cherries, grilled meats, lovely soil tones, espresso, floral tones and a just a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is medium-full, deep and intensely flavored, with a lovely core of fruit, juicy acidity, moderate tannins, and a very long, primary and soil-driven finish. This will be a beautiful bottle of wine in another six to seven years, and should keep very well based on its extraordinary balance. (drink 2010-2030)

Allen Meadows Burghound 87-90

2004 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin) Burghound, 1/1/2006, 1st Quarter, 2006, Allen Meadows (web) 87-90 A subtle hint of wood spice frames elegant red berry fruit aromas with undertones of earth and game that introduce round, supple yet impressively precise flavors that coat the mouth on the long finish. This is a very fine example of its level and one that should reward 6 to 8 years of cellar time. (drink starting 2010)
