Allen Meadows Burghound 91-94

2005 Antonin Guyon Corton-Bressandes Domaine de la Guyonnière (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru) Burghound, 4/1/2007, 2nd Quarter, 2007, Allen Meadows (web) 91-94 As it should be, this is finer, more elegant and more sophisticated though interestingly there is a touch of menthol here too on the otherwise pure red and black pinot fruit nose that introduces finely detailed and intensely mineral flavors that possess driving power on the superbly long finish. This is a near perfect alliance of power and refinement and certainly as Corton goes, this is an elegant example. (drink starting 2017)

John Gilman View from the Cellar 93

2005 Antonin Guyon Corton-Bressandes Domaine de la Guyonnière (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru) View From the Cellar, 3/1/2007, Mar/Apr 2007, John Gilman 93 The Guyon Bressandes is more typical of young Corton in its more red fruity and minerally personality, and it too is stellar in 2005. The bouquet jumps from the glass in a blaze of red cherries, red plum, a bit of red currant, woodsmoke, cocoa, strong stony soil tones and a judicious touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and very pure, with a rock solid core of fruit, and good length and grip on the chewy finish. The perception of oak here seems a bit more than in the Renardes, but as all of the grand crus had just been bottled at the start of March, this is most likely due to the recent mise. A lovely example in the making. (drink 2015-2050)
