Allen Meadows Burghound 87-90

2006 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin) Burghound, 1/1/2008, 1st Quarter, 2008, Allen Meadows (web) 87-90 Here the nose also displays a discreet touch of wood as well as notes of earth, underbrush and dark berry fruit but somehow the mixture is a bit more elegant and refined and this sense of refinement continues onto the mouth coating and sappy flavors that are intense, balanced and relatively powerful. A lovely villages that is worth a look. (drink starting 2012)

John Gilman View from the Cellar 91-92

2006 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin) View From the Cellar, 11/1/2007, Nov/Dec 2007, John Gilman 91-92 I have been a fan of Denis Bachelet’s Gevrey V.V. for decades now, and the 2006 is yet another outstanding example of this premier cru quality bottling. The malo here finished at the end of July of 2007, and the wine was showing very well at the time of my visit in November. The bouquet is deep and complex, as it offers up notes of black cherries, cassis, bitter chocolate, grilled meats, Gevrey’s black minerality, a touch of new oak and a topnote of heavily roasted coffee bean. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and primary, with lovely cool fruit tones, a rock solid core, and excellent length and grip on the ripely tannic and very long finish. Fine juice that truly transcends village wine quality. (drink 2015-2035)
