2006 Jose Dhondt Champagne Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Mes Vieilles Vignes (France, Champagne, Oger, Champagne) View From the Cellar, 7/1/2011, Jul/Aug 2011, John Gilman 93+ The José Dhondt “Mes Vieilles Vignes” bottling is consistently excellent, and the 2006 looks to be another absolutely stellar example of this lovely wine. The bouquet is deep, very young and quite outstanding, as it jumps from the glass in a mélange of apple, pear, orange zest, chalky soil tones, bread dough and citrus zest. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and utterly refined, with a fine core of fruit, flawless focus and balance, brisk acids and stunning length and grip on the still very youthful finish. As is customary for this outstanding bottling, the 2006 Mes Vieilles Vignes will need a few years in the cellar to fully blossom and should drink beautifully for a couple of decades. (drink 2015-2035)
