Allen Meadows Burghound 90-92

2007 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru) Burghound, 6/1/2009, June 2009, Allen Meadows (web) 90-92 In contrast to the expressiveness of the Clavoillon, here the nose is restrained and backward with more primary notes of lemon peel and rose petal with spiced pear nuances that can also be found on the pure, racy, intense and strikingly detailed medium-bodied flavors brimming with an almost pungent minerality on the explosive, complex and driving finish. I really like the underlying sense of personality despite how primary this wine is compared to the preceding examples. (drink starting 2013)

John Gilman View from the Cellar 93+

2007 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru) View From the Cellar, 1/1/2009, Jan/Feb 2009, John Gilman 93+ The 2007 Domaine Leflaive Folatières is absolutely stellar in this vintage, as it delivers brilliant focus and purity on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is utterly brilliant, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of crystallized fruit redolent of apples, peaches and lemons, great minerality, floral tones and a judicious framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and stunningly transparent, with a superb core of fruit, brilliant focus and a very racy, elegant and snappy finish- particularly for Folatières, which can sometimes be more about opulent generosity than it can be about breed and laser-like precision. But not this year, as the 2007 Leflaive Folatières is clearly amongst the greatest example of this cru that I have ever tasted here. (drink 2014-2040)
