Allen Meadows Burghound 95

2007 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos (France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru) Burghound, 10/1/2009, October 2009, Allen Meadows (web) 95 Despite a moderately high percentage of wood, the influence is really quite subtle if not invisible with a superbly complex and elegant nose of brioche, spice, mineral reduction, white flower and pure green fruit notes that also reveal seaweed and iodine nuances that lead to powerful and ultra intense flavors that are flat out explosive on the strikingly long finish. This really makes one salivate as the intensity is almost difficult to tolerate on the mouth coating, bone dry and harmonious finish. Impressive cellar potential here and this is a genuinely great Les Clos. (drink starting 2014)

Stephen Tanzers International Wine Cellar 93

2007 Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis Les Clos Pale yellow. Reticent nose dominated by oyster shell minerality. Juicy on entry, then pure and sharply focused, with compelling if slightly reduced flavors of citrus peel, iodine, silex and crushed stone. Densely packed but almost magically light on its feet, displaying the energy of the better 2007s. Finishes with dusty minerality and lovely perfumed lift. By far the longest of these 2007s. This and the Valmur are showing the least oak influence now and seem destined to age best. 93
