John Gilman View from the Cellar 93

2009 Domaine Camus-Bruchon & Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Narbantons Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru) View From the Cellar, 11/1/2010, Nov/Dec 2010, John Gilman 93 The 2009 Narbantons Vieilles Vignes is also stunning in this vintage, and it may well wear the crown as the finest wine in the range this year. The bouquet is flat out fantastic, as it offers up a stunning mix of black cherries, blood orange, grilled meat, woodsmoke, fresh thyme, a great base of stony soil tones, cocoa and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and properly reserved, with a rock solid core of fruit, impeccable focus, a fair bit of ripe, well-integrated tannin and great length on the soil-driven finish. A first class Savigny premier cru. (drink 2018-2045)

Allen Meadows Burghound 92

2009 Domaine Camus-Bruchon & Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Narbantons (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru) Burghound, 4/1/2012, Apr-12, Allen Meadows (web) 92 This was noticeably reduced so I would advise decanting it if you're going to crack one young. Otherwise, there is good verve to the refined, pure and sophisticated medium-bodied flavors that possess a velvety mouth feel before terminating in a plummy, mouth coating and ever-so-mildly warm but persistent finish. My score assumes that the reduction will dissipate with time in bottle and is obviously not permanent. (drink starting 2019)
